Alfred “Al” H. Schumacher, age 94, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 6:33 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Heritage Center.
Al was born September 28, 1923, in Mackey, IN, to Louis & Elma (Scholtz) Schumacher. He graduated from Reitz High School in 1941. Al proudly served as an Army Tech Sergeant in the Transportation Corps in Europe during World War II. After returning from the war, he worked for Sigeco (Vectren). He retired in 1986 after 40 years of service. Al then went on to work for United Fidelity until his second and final retirement at age 88. A brick in his honor was placed in the Veteran’s Memorial Commemorative Walk downtown Evansville. Al was a 30-year member of Grace Baptist Church and was a member of the Pastor’s Bible Study Class.
Al is survived by his daughters, Marsha (Schumacher) Martin (Sam), and Suzy Blesch, both of Evansville; sons, Herbert “Herb” Schumacher (Cheryl) of Evansville `and Steven McBride (Trudy Gillehe) of New London, CT; daughter-in-law, Audrey Schumacher; sister, Louise Daum of Evansville; grandchildren, Karli Hape (Brian), Kelli Schupp (Erik), Stefanie Suazo (Dan), Michael Graddy (Dawn), Brad Martin (Annette), Nick Blesch Clark (Tina), Spencer Blesch (Andrea), Clay Blesch, Houston McBride (Kara), Lisa Neuffer (Brett); 24 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, June (Eissler) Schumacher; second wife, Emma “Jean” (Oliver) Schumacher; sons, Randall Schumacher & David McBride; sister, Gloria Freels; granddaughters, Jeanna McBride and Tina McBride; and grandson, Jason Schumacher.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 1800 St. George Road, Evansville, IN, 47711. Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will render full military rites at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Phil Hoy is officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
