Brenda G. Locker Garnett, 69, passed away on December 24, 2019, surrounded by her family at home after a brave fight with a long-term illness.
Brenda was born to the late Lloyd Locker and Mary (Vickers) Locker on February 16, 1950 in Evansville, IN. She was a lifelong resident of Evansville attending Harper Elementary and Harrison High School.
Brenda adored Christmas and would spend days decorating every room of her home, along with her daughter, best friend and caregiver, Britt. Her Christmas packages were beautiful, and she was known for her flawless package bows. She would lend her services out to gift wrap for others. She spent her last several years living in a picturesque cottage, perfect for the season. The family recognizes how it was in Brenda’s character to pass at this time of year; a time to rejoice in our Savior’s birth.
Brenda was a talented interior designer and among a few of her many talents were custom painting, stenciling, wallpapering, sewing and upholstery. A family member could not paint a room or buy a piece of furniture without Brenda’s expert advice.
Brenda graduated from Harrison High School in 1968. Immediately upon graduating from high school, she worked 10 years at the former Keller Crescent in Evansville. Brenda worked for many years (and started shortly after the opening of the store) at the former Lazarus department store at Eastland Mall in Evansville, in the office/gift wrap area and shipping. She was a designer at Ethan Allen.
Brenda is survived by her husband, James Garnett of Evansville, daughters Britt Garnett of Evansville and Kara (Nick) Ragsdale of New Palestine, IN. She is survived by her sisters, Cindy (Bill) Evans of Evansville and Kim Devine of Newburgh, IN, sister-in-law Pam Locker of Evansville and a brother Jeff (Jenanne) Locker of Newburgh, IN. She is proceeded in death by her grandson Peyton Ragsdale, a brother David Locker of Evansville and brother Dr. Larry Wadsworth. She is survived by 4 wonderful grandchildren, Samuel, Marley, Ellie and Noah of New Palestine, IN. Also surviving are nephews, Eric Locker of Evansville, Brian (Karina) Locker of Indianapolis, IN, Chad Evans (Stormee) of Carlsbad, CA, Dr. Robert Evans (Carlie) of Ashland, OR and Logan Devine of Evansville. Nieces, Lori (Russell) Ferguson of Evansville, IN, Christy (CJ) Bauer of Northbrooke, IL, Jennifer Castner of Evansville, Jessica (Zac) Parsons of Evansville, Jana (Mark) Pokora of San Clemente, CA, Taryn (Steven) Reynolds of Louisville, KY, Morgan Devine of Newburgh, IN, and Ashlyn Devine of Newburgh, IN. Coming from a large family, she is blessed to be survived by several wonderful cousins, great nephews, nieces and friends. Special thanks to her caregiver Talina Heavilin.
