Charles Sumner Obituary

Charles M. Sumner, 77, of Evansille, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of complications of cancer.

He retired in 1982 as an in­spector after 35 years with Whirlpool Corp. He was a World War II Army veteran and recipient of the Pur­ple Heart. He was a member of the Owls.

Surviving are his daughter, Lavonne Hall of Evansville; a son, Charles W of Evansville; two sisters, Eula C. Godwin and Lu­cille Shelton, both of Evansville; two grandchildren, Kacy Sumner and Abram Hall; a great-grand­child; and nieces and nephews.

His wife, Vera (Phelps) died in 1996.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Robert Nall officiating, with burial in Alexan­der Memorial Park, with military rites.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Hope Can­cer Resource Center.
