Charles M. Sumner, 77, of Evansille, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at St. Mary’s Medical Center of complications of cancer.
He retired in 1982 as an inspector after 35 years with Whirlpool Corp. He was a World War II Army veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Owls.
Surviving are his daughter, Lavonne Hall of Evansville; a son, Charles W of Evansville; two sisters, Eula C. Godwin and Lucille Shelton, both of Evansville; two grandchildren, Kacy Sumner and Abram Hall; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
His wife, Vera (Phelps) died in 1996.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Robert Nall officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park, with military rites.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
