Chester Garrett Son, age 88, born to Gilbert and Gladys (Dorris) Son on May 17, 1930 in Caldwell County, KY. He passed away at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Golden Living Center Woodlands in Newburgh.
Chester graduated from Fredonia, KY High School. He retired from Alcoa in 1993 after 23 years of service. Chester and Rosa Nell were very active members of Gateway Baptist Church since 1962 where Chester served as Deacon. They also enjoyed traveling, Gaither concerts, and square dancing. Chester was an avid bowler, loved the St. Louis Cardinals, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Chester is survived by his sons, Stephen Son (Ann) of Lynchburg, VA, Gerald “Dwight” Son (Linda) of O’Fallon, IL, Kerry Wayne Son (Nikki) of Harbine, China, and Rancey Craig Son of Grand Prarie, TX; grandchildren, Keith Allen Son (Stephanie), Bryan Scott Son (Danielle), Melissa Dawn Broussard (Brad), Leisa Son, Craig Son (Danielle Demetria), Lauri Clevenger (Craig), Rachel Son, and Caitlyn Thompson; great grandchildren, Kayden Broussard, Ava Grace Son, Konner Broussard, Nathan Son, Kayleigh Dawn Broussard, Connor Clevenger, Cecilia Son, Andrew Garrett Son, Emerson Ann Smith, Sophia James Son, Zach Camp, Logan Camp, and Leah Camp; great great granddaughter Charlotte Camp; brother, Denver Son; sisters in law, Mildred Son and Sue Son; several nieces and nephews; close friends; and his church family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 59 years, Rosa Nell Son; infant sister, Velda Son; and brothers, Deryl and Roy Gayle Son.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2018 at Gateway Baptist Church, 7564 W. State Route 66, Newburgh, with Pastor Morgan Flagler officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2018 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville.
