Lisa, Eric and Melanie:
A belated condolence on your dad's death as we only learned of it from an ABE newsletter last week. DeVerre was a great doctor to our family during our years in Evansville. He took care of our boys, Josh and Nick, from birth and was always gracious with calls from panicked first-time parents. DeVerre was also a fine Christian and along with Patsy a valuable couple in our church.

Eric,
Praying for you in this time of loss (we are our of town at this time). Your Dad was a good man and very good example. Times like this bring back memories from times gone bye such as a memorable birthday pool party. He made us all laugh and have a good time. Nancy has always had a great deal of respect for him as a physician. She worked in Oncology for 23 years at St Marys. He gave you space to establish your position with other physicians, but he could not conceal his pride which was busting at the seams as well. Our sincere sympathy to you and your family.

Dear Lisa, Eric and family...sending hugs and prayers at this time. Celebrating with you and thanking our God for the opportunity to have known him, having him as my attending physician as a child growing up. So thankful that he was still practicing when my own children came along. He always had a servant’s heart. A little difficult to look at this picture of him without his stethoscope. Bet the heavenly one he is wearing now is laden with pearls, diamonds, silver and gold; no doubt in line waiting to cast it at Jesus’s feet. May God bless you all as you honor him with great home going festivities tomorrow. Most sincerely, D. and Cindi (Jent) Powers.

We would like to extend our condolences to the Gourieux family on the passing of DeVerre, who was our very dear SW Florida friend. We had the opportunity to spend many hours with DeVerre over the past 6 years. Our most recent memory was hiding out in DeVerre's home while Hurricane Irma roared through Estero on Sunday, September 10. In the aftermath of the hurricane, we were without power for 5 days so we spent a lot of time in the car looking for gas and trying to stay cool.

Wednesdays at Fitzgerald's for liver and onion lunches were a regular occasion for DeVerre and Jim. We also enjoyed eating at Fancy's with DeVerre, who especially enjoyed the catfish, greens, and etouffee stew.

While DeVerre's passing is a great sadness for us, we have wonderful memories of a very kind and compassionate friend. We were privileged to know him!
May God bless each of you.

Deanna and Jim

Tom and Lisa , I am so sorry for your loss. DeVere was a precious man who unfortunately I didn’t get to spend much time with him. I know how much he love looking out at the pond. Especially at night he loved to see the gazebo and the dock lit up at night so I made sure I put LED bulbs in them so they would not go out. Precious man and neighbor . He will be deeply missed.

Eric and family,
What a gentleman in the true sense of the word. What a physician in the Hippocratic meaning. I enjoyed working with him and valued his thoughts over the years. "Stop for some tea" he said. Still do.

Eric, so sorry to hear of your dad passing. He was such a gentle man. I remember once, Jessie was a having a problem and she went to a specialist. You were out of town (country) and she was treated harshly at 2 yrs old. I was upset and she was crying. He gave me and a hug and took Jessie from me and hugged her and calmed her down. Then he proceeded to call the specialist and tell him what he thought of him. I had a lot of respect for him that day. We are so glad we were able to meet him and see how much you are like him. Our prayers are with you now and I look forward to seeing him when he is given back to us as God has promised.
