Ernestine (McDowell) Staples Mattingly, age 98, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at Heritage Center.
Ernestine was born July 20, 1920, in Crittenden County, KY, to Ray and Lena (Newcom) McDowell. She graduated from Crittenden County High School in 1939 and went on to graduate from Deaconess Nursing School in 1942. Post-graduation, she worked at the Evansville Shipyards before working as an RN for Dr. Slaughters and Dr. T. J. Pavlick for 29 years before retiring in 1985.
She is survived by her daughter, Marian Kay Myers (Denny) of Evansville; step-son, Charles Mattingly (Maureen) of Cumming, GA; grandchild, Marshall Meyers; great-grandchild, Lilly Meyers and Ashley Meyers; and nieces and nephews of Evansville, Joan Phillips, Jenny Hill, and Chester Staples; and many other nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilford Mattingly, who passed away in 2003; step-son, Gerald Mattingly; 1st husband, father to Kay, Elmore Staples, who passed away in 1971; sisters, Roberta Parks, Margie Davis, Georgia Ford, and Christine Meyer; and brothers, Rudolph McDowell, Iley McDowell, Edwin McDowell, and Douglas McDowell.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Father Ted Tempel officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, November 23, 2018 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
