Harry Girvin, Jr., age 85, of Newburgh, IN, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville.
Harry was born August 7, 1932, in Hamilton, NC, to the late Harry Girvin, Sr. and the late Lacey Sullivan Girvin. He was a Top Gunner on a B29 and was proud of his top-secret clearance. Harry joined the United States Air Force right out of high school and served during the Korean Conflict. He loved the time he spent in the military and the way that it greatly influenced the rest of his life. Harry was a Union plumber by trade and later became a Roofing Manager with Industrial Contractors. He was a member of the American Legion Kapperman Post 44.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Ellen (Hale) Girvin; daughter, Melinda “Bodie” Hyatt (Roger); step-daughter, Ann (Keith) Thompson; and step-son, Sean (Tina) McKinney.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elizabeth Lamb and Beatrice Holiday; brother, Ralph Girvin; daughter, Patti Ann (Girvin) Healy; step-sons, Victor Ray Voigt and Steven Voigt.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Mike Claypool officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery where American Legion Kapperman Post 44 will perform military rites.
Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018 and from 9:00 a.m. until service time, Friday, January 26, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
