Irene Elizabeth (Hawkins) Wyand

Irene Elizabeth Wyand, age 97, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019, at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Irene was born October 9, 1922, in Cadiz, KY to Tom Albert and Ethel (Merrick) Hawkins. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and attended Crossroads Christian Church for many years. Irene worked for many years as a waitress at Evans Café where she loved socializing with her customers. Irene also had a love for all things outdoors, including watching the birds. She was an avid flower gardener and specifically loved her roses. Irene loved to travel, cook and being out in the sunshine. Some of her favorite times were spent with her family.

Irene was a devoted mother and grandmother who had an extra special bond with her great granddaughter, Meagan O’Brien. Irene is also survived by her two sons, Thomas “Tom” O’Brien (Frances) and Patrick “Pat” O’Brien (Barbara); grandchildren, Tom O’Brien (Debbie), Debbie Terry (Rick), Patty Perry (Mike), Scott O’Brien (Missy), Missy Crane (Roger), Shana Juncker (Jimmy) and Lisa O’Brien; 20 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom Albert and Ethel (Merrick) Hawkins; late husbands, Jack O’Brien and Paul Wyand; sisters, Annie Mae and Macy Hawkins; and brothers, Grover, Doc and Calvin Hawkins.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 30, 2019 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Rick Sellers. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.  

Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 30, 2019 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
