Jasper "Damon" Manes, Jr.

Jasper Damon Manes, Jr., age 77, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 2:23 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at Linda E. White Hospice House.

Damon was born July 21, 1941, in Kilgore, TX, to the late Jasper D. Manes, Sr. and Mary M. (Kempf) Manes. He graduated from Kilgore High School. Damon was a Veteran of the United States Navy where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant while serving from June 1, 1966 – June 1, 1968. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and Biology in 1963 from North Texas University and his Master’s Degree Chemistry in 1965 from Oregon State University. Damon worked for the Public Health Service from 1966 – 1968 at Maryland Radiological Health in Rockville, MD, for NASA from 1968 – 1969 at Houston Man Space Center, and for Mead Johnson, formerly known as Bristol – Meyers Squibb as a biochemist, where he retired in 1992. Damon loved growing flowers and was known for finding a way to fix anything.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley (Ball) Manes; stepsons, Darren Rye (Kathy) of Cedar Park, TX and Greg Rye (Tara) of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Davis, Danielle, Grant, Mikala, and Jack; sisters-in-law, Marilyn McConnell and Barbara Shelton (Winston); brother-in-law, Stanley Ball (Jeannie); and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley would like to say a special thank you to the staff at the Linda E. White Hospice House and to her nephew, Dr. Kevin McConnell and to his wife, Julie McConnell for their compassionate care and concern.

Funeral Services and Visitation will be Private for family and close friends. Burial will be Private in Park Lawn Cemetery.
