John Hanes, Sr., age 87, of Evansville, IN, went home to be with the Lord at 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2019, at home, surrounded by his family.
John was born November 4, 1931, in Evansville, IN, to Jack Edward and Julia Pearl (Ernst) Hanes. He graduated from Bosse High School/Mechanic Arts in 1949. John worked in sheet metal and maintenance at General Foods for 43 years. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church where he and Dorothy were on the visitation team. They enjoyed visiting people in hospitals and nursing homes. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles, flying R/C planes, and building boats, campers, and their family home. John loved Jesus and being able to witness and pray with people. John loved all of his large family.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy (Lambert) Hanes; son, John Hanes, Jr. (Ann) of Vincennes, IN; daughter, Brenda Gail Waters (Gary) of Lincoln, NE; son, Ronald Hanes (Denise) of Newburgh, IN; brother, Fred Hanes; sister, Beverly Ann Hanes; grandchildren, Angela Torres (Scott), Chris Hanes (Tempera), Rachel Taylor (Gary), Gary Wayne Waters, Jr. (Angel), Gail Barrowclough (Elliott), Sarah Wilson (Trent), John Waters (Paige), Jill Howard (Nathan) and Tina Adkins (Gabe); and 25 great grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jack Hanes, Jr., Bill Hanes, Jim Hanes, and Pete Hanes.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2019 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Dale Beaver officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 20, 2019, and from 12:00 p.m. until service time, Monday, October 21, 2019, at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
