John Michael Kohl, age 76, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 4:29 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2019, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
John was born January 16, 1943, in Evansville, IN, to the late Lester and Catherine (Cox) Kohl. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1961 and attended Evansville College. John was a Veteran in the United States Army Reserves. He retired from Vectren, formerly known as Sigeco, in 2007 after 40 years as a draftsman. John was a member of Nativity Catholic Church and most recently attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He and Rita received the Mother Theresa Diocesan Award in 2008 and the Brute Diocesan Award in 2017. He played Dulcimer and Dobro instruments with his good friend, Mike Brandt. John loved spending time with his family, he especially loved his weekly family suppers.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Rita (Howard) Kohl; daughter, Linette Bullington (Steve) of Evansville, IN; son, Jeffery Kohl (Shannon) of Sherrills Ford, NC; grandchildren, Joshua Horn (Rachel), Brandon Kohl (Sadie), Justin Kohl, Katie Stovall (Brandon), Madison Kempf (Devin), and Jacie Bullington (Jacob Schmitt); and great grandchildren, Avery Horn and Coralyn Horn, Oakley Horn, Sawyer Kohl, and Edson Kempf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 26, 2019, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1303 South Green River Road with Father Henry Kuykendall and Father Bernie Etienne officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Wood Cemetery in Whitesville, KY.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Thursday, September 26, 2019, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
