Raymond J. “Ray” Miller, age 85, of Evansville, IN and Fort Myers, FL, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018, at home in Fort Myers, FL.
Ray was born December 12, 1933, in Evansville, IN, to Raymond D. and Velma R. (Rowe) Miller. He was a graduate of Bosse High School and University of Evansville with additional studies at Indiana University and University of Evansville as well as specialized programs at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Ray served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserves as a non-commissioned officer and commissioned officer after completion of officer candidate school.
During his career over 45 years, Ray was employed as Director of Research Administration at Mead Johnsson – Evansville, IN; Vice President of the Charles F. Kettering Foundation – Dayton, OH; Vice President, Rose – Hulman Institute of Technology – Terre Haute, IN; and Vice President of Harvey Mudd College of Engineering and Science – Claremont, CA.
After taking early retirement in 1994 to return to Evansville, Ray was employed half time for five years at the University of Evansville as the Assistant to the President and Board of Trustees for Special Projects. Additionally, Ray held the following affiliations: Business Advisory Board – Investment Management Program at Stanford University Graduate School, Member of the Board of Trustees at University of Evansville, Member of the Advisory Board of Trustees for University of Dayton Investment, Board Member of the Kettering, OH YMCA, and extensive church related activities over a fifty-year period, including Board Member, Chairman of various committees, Church Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, and Deacon.
Since an early age, Ray had an avid interest in sport shooting and was a member of the Evansville Gun Club, Daniel Boon Gun Club, National Rifle Association, Quail Creek Plantation and Sarasota Trap and Skeet Clubs in Florida. He also enjoyed fishing and periodically playing mediocre golf. He was a member of the Lexington Country Club in Fort Myers where he and his wife resided.
He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Betty L. (Gile) Miller; son, Jeffrey Miller (Kim) of Appleton, WI, and children, Karie LaValle (Ryan) and Kyle; son, Steven Miller (Diane) of Portola Hills, CA, and children, Briana, Carly, and Avery; son, Michael Miller (Susan) of Westport, CT, and children, Abigail and Grace; step-son, Dr. Todd Gile (Cara) and children, Emma and Abbey; step-daughter, Leslie Shrode and family, Joe Kelly and Lacy McAllister; step-son, Gary Gloy (Holly) and family, Jeffrey Gloy and Melissa Hughes (Michael); extended family, Dan and Susan Hostetler and family, Steven and Megan; brother-in-law, Maurice Paris (Margaret); sister-in-law, Nancy Ingebrand (Richard); sister-in-law, Susan Ising (Terry); and numerous special nephews, nieces, cousins, step-grandchildren, step-relatives, and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond D. and Velma R. Miller and first wife of 45 years, Janice R. (Paris) Miller.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN. Burial will be Private.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday, December 29, 2018 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
