Reverend Ferd A. Elfreich, age 83, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at River Pointe Health Campus. His generous spirit, though, will continue to live on in the hearts of all those he touched. Ferd profoundly and positively affected many people in the community during his lifetime as a Pastor or counselor, as well as a beloved husband, father, brother, grandpa, and great grandpa to his family.
Ferd and his twin sister, Shirley, were born October 21, 1936, in Evansville, IN, to Herbert and Catherine (Morris) Elfreich. He graduated from Reitz High School in 1954 and was a Veteran in the United States Airforce where he served in the squadron commanded by the legendary pilot, Chuck Yeager. On June 7, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann McGregor in Evansville. After leaving the Air Force, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Oakland City College and his Masters of Divinity Degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Over the years, he served as Pastor or Interim Pastor for several different Baptist congregations in the area, and he worked as a marriage and family counselor until declining health forced him to slow down. Ferd owned Cornerstone Counseling in Newburgh. He loved to spend time with his grandkids and was always there to help his kids and grandkids in whatever way he could.
Ferd is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley Ann; twin sister, Shirley Cannon; children, Kathy Brady (Phil), Jon Elfreich (Shannon), and Doug Elfreich (Christi); grandchildren, Lindsey Rolley (Brandon), Rachel Price (James), Jessica Andrews (Steve), Logan Elfreich (Emily), Kelsey Duff (Matt), Rachel Fenneman (Sam), William Elfreich, Matthew Elfreich, Christian Elfreich, Nick Elfreich, Haley Elfreich, Ryan James, and Kyle James; and great grandchildren, Mackenzie Rolley, Mason Rolley, Myles Rolley, Aiden Hall, Kallie Hall, Wyatt Duff, Josie Mae Fenneman, Susan Price, JD Price, and Gage Price.
