Stanley L. Pope, 83, of Evansville, died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Mr. Pope retired from CSX Railroad in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the United Transportation Union. He received the Purple Heart, Silver and Bronze Star and was a sharpshooter. He was a member of Covert Avenue Baptist Church. He was a life member of the VFW 1114 and life member of Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris Maxine (Porter) Pope; three sons, Ron J. Pope of Newburgh, Ind., Rick K. Pope, who was his caregiver, of Evansville, Ind., and Nick K. Pope and his wife, Evelyn, of Evansville; 5 grandchildren, Susie, Brandon, Brian, Kimberly and Jennifer Pope; a great-grandchild, Taylor Roach; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2002, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, with Brother Robert J. Wright officiation. Burial will be in James Parker Cemetery in Hatfield, Ind.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
