Sylvia Sue (Smith) Cheshire

Sylvia Sue (Smith) Cheshire, 76, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away at 3:59 pm, Monday, March 5, 2018, at Deaconess Midway Hospital.

Born September 24, 1941 in Tennyson, IN, Sylvia was the daughter of the late Howard P. and Sylvia (Bullock) Smith.  After graduating from high school, she married her sweetheart, Jerry L. Cheshire. Sylvia made her career as a secretary and was of the Pentecostal faith.  She was an avid reader and found enjoyment in the simple things in life such as enjoying a glass of cold Pepsi, binge watching Netflix in her favorite pajamas, spoiling her sweet Sheltie, conversations with her grandkids, sharing her love of the Lord, and most importantly… watching and basking in the strengths and triumphs of her children.  She was a woman of immeasurable inner strength and possessed an uncanny ability to always know what to say or do to comfort others.  However, most importantly, Sue was a wonderful Momma, who absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.  Her matriarchal guidance will be missed very much by all of those who knew and loved her.  She touched more lives than can be measured and made the world a brighter place for her friends and family.

Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Tamye Dardeen and Leigh Ann Casper (Anthony), both of Evansville; son-in-law, Sam Rector of Evansville; brothers, Marty Greenwell of Newburgh, and Richard Smith of Oakland City; grandchildren, Steven Michael Dardeen, Jonathon Lee Dardeen, Samantha Rai Rector and Kymberleigh Ann Faulk; and great-granddaughter, Aleigha Jo, all of Evansville.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 45 years, Jerry L. Cheshire; and brothers, David Smith, and Howard “Buddy” Smith; daughters, Kimberely Sue Cheshire, and Tracey Beth Rector.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 9, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Scotty Calvert officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Campbelltown, IN.

Friends may visit from 9:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am, Friday, March 9, 2018 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital, 705 Riley Hospital Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202 or to the family to help offset funeral costs.
