Vivian Irene (Walts) Kays

Vivian Irene (Walts) Kays, age 96, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019.

Vivian was born May 20, 1923, in Pike County, IN, to Howard A. Walts and Opal (Sumner) Walts Western. She was a 1941 graduate of Hazelton High School and a graduate of Lockyear's Business College. Vivian was a member of St. Johns East United Church of Christ. She worked as a Secretary at Servel, as a Court Reporter in Pike County Circuit Court for Judge Lester Nixon, and as a Secretary for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation at Dexter Elementary School for 42 years. Vivian enjoyed cooking, gardening, growing beautiful flowers, playing Bunco and Bridge, sewing, and quilting.

Vivian is survived by her daughters, Jane LaMar (Dennis) of Indianapolis, IN, and Kathryn Stewart (Andy) of Evansville, IN; daughter-in-law, Joan Adler Kays of Haubstadt, IN; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Vivian is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 24 years, Virgil Kays, who passed away in 1972; son, Dr. Howard W. Kays (1951-1996); and daughter, Barbara Kays McCarty (1954-2016).

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Kris Holzmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg, IN.  

Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Thursday, August 29, 2019 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
