Walter Eugene “Gene” Hayford, age 85, of Hatfield, IN, passed away at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital, in Newburgh, IN.
Gene was born July 31, 1932, in Richland, IN, to Daniel L. and Madeline (Collins) Hayford. He graduated from Luce Township High School in 1950. He worked for ANR Pipeline Company for 30 years. He was a life member of Hatfield United Methodist Church. Gene was a member of Eureka Masonic Lodge # 397. He was a 50-year member of the Hatfield Volunteer Fire Department. Gene and his wife, Shirley, were snowbirds for 24 years and made yearly trips to Florida. Gene was a past president of the Hatfield Optimists Club and was a trustee of the Hatfield United Methodist Church. He loved camping, small engine repair, woodworking and being around his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Shirley A. (Carr) Hayford, sons, Timothy (Cindy) Hayford, of Friendswood, TX, and Tracy (Laura) Hayford, of Newburgh, seven grandchildren, Nicholas (Hannah), Brandon, Adam (Michelle), Logan (Lauren), Corey, Melanie, & Abbey Hayford, and great grandchildren, Samuel Hayford and Charlotte Hayford, sister, Martha E. (John) Maier, of Evansville, brother, Dr. Stephen L. (Vicki) Hayford, of Bloomington, IN, sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Hayford of Cable, Wisconsin & Jackie Hayford of Newburgh, IN, several nieces and nephews.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William Ross & Wesley C. Hayford.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Hatfield United Methodist Church, in Hatfield, IN, with Reverends David Cotton & Rick Riley officiating. Burial will be in James Parker Cemetery, in Hatfield, IN, where the Rockport American Legion will render full military rites.
Friends may visit from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Hatfield United Methodist Church, in Hatfield, IN, where Eureka Masonic Lodge # 397 will conduct a Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m.
