Wayman E. Brackett, age 83, of Newburgh, IN, passed away at 3:55 a.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Wayman was born January 22, 1936, in Calhoun, KY, to George T. and Evadene (Austin) Brackett. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1953 and served in the Naval Reserve for 8 years. His father, George Brackett, started Brackett Heating and Air in 1949. Wayman started his own custom home building business and built 238 homes in the Tri-State area, and he partnered with his father to carry on Brackett Heating and Air which, to this day, is a thriving business due to Wayman’s determination and expertise.
Wayman was a charter member of Abundant Life Community Church where he oversaw its building program of the main sanctuary and youth building. Wayman loved to teach the Bible as he taught Sunday School for 64 years. He was previously instrumental in leadership at Bible Center Cathedral and Bethel Temple.
Wayman is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Darlene (Roberts) Brackett; son, David Brackett; daughter, Carla (Brackett) Boulware and her husband, Pastor Troy Boulware; grandchildren, Bryce Brackett, Morgan Barrans, Mallory Jordan, Mackenzie Kneeves, and Andrew Brackett; and 10 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mike Brackett.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Abundant Life Community Church, 7333 Sharon Road, Newburgh, with Pastor Troy Boulware officiating. Entombment will be in Oak Hill Mausoleum.
Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Abundant Life Community Church and again from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, Wayman’s wishes were for memorial contributions to be made to: Ground Zero Youth Ministries, 7333 Sharon Road, Newburgh, IN 47630.
