Alfred “Al” Shepherd, Jr, age 95, died April 26, 2021 at the Villages of Hamilton Pointe.
Al was born in Mt. Vernon, MO, on December 7, 1925. After serving in the US Navy during World War II, he graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was employed by Hoosier Cardinal Corporation, Mead Johnson, Welborn Hospital, and Bethel Church. In addition to his employment, he also served as Fire Chief of the Scott Township Fire Department and farmed property in Northern Vanderburgh County. Al was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Evansville.
Al is survived by his wife of 39 years, Deborah (Schroder) Shepherd; 4 children: Penelope Johnson (Mark Cook), Stason Stacer, Thomas Andrew Shepherd (Mary Beth Ennulat), and Sarah Cross (Paul); and 5 grandsons: Scott Shepherd, Zachary Johnson, Alex Johnson, William Cross, and Cameron Cross.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Grace Shepherd; and his sister, Mary Susan Shepherd.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the care and compassion provided to Al by the staff of Hamilton Pointe and Heart to Heart Hospice.
Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville where full military rites will be rendered by the American Legion Newburgh Kapperman Post #44. Reverend Kevin Scott Fleming will be officiating. A Live Stream will be available beginning twenty minutes prior to the service time.
