Alice F. (Coomer) Akin, age 81, of Evansville, IN, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Alice was born January 11, 1944, in Horse Cave, KY, to Lucian and Clara (Mundy) Coomer. She graduated from Columbus Sr. High School in 1962. She was a faithful member of Vann Avenue Baptist Church since 1970 where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was a member of the Hospitality Committee, and served in many other capacities over the years. In 2003, Alice retired from Sears Department Store after 36 years of service making custom drapes and later in sales. She was a member of the Blabber Club with her very close friends. She enjoyed gardening, going to rummage sales, collecting cook books, and watching Gun Smoke. Alice especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and her cats, Spanky, Buttercup, Bootsie, and Tiger.
Alice is survived by her son, James Akin (Regina “Rene”) of Evansville, IN; 5 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Lucian and Clara Coomer; loving husband of 54 years, Harold W. Akin, who passed away in 2019; and son, Raymond Akin, who passed away in 2021.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Rev. Dr. Larry Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
