(Alice) Christine Shipley Obituary

(Alice) Christine Shipley, 95, of Evansville, Indiana passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025.

Christine was born June 20,1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Hershel Maude Davis and Forest Farrell McLemore. She was the older of two children. She graduated from Southeast High School, in Kansas City, Missouri, and worked towards a degree in Art at Central Missouri State College, now the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri. Her life was full: enjoying family adventures, sharing special moments with friends and serving in the communities where she lived. Christine spent many years moving and traveling due to her husband's responsibilities with the United States Navy and Mead Johnson Nutritionals. She used each location and trip as a unique opportunity to share art and history with her family.

Her friends knew her as a crafter, chef, and organizer. During the family's time in New Orleans, Christine volunteered for an orphanage to maintain and decorate all the bulletin boards in the facility. She worked at making these fun and cheerful to help the children feel more at home. While living in Kansas City, Christine worked with the Nelson Art Gallery to develop and implement a program of bringing art history into the classroom. She was known as the "picture lady".

Christine became involved with rubber stamping in her later years. Everyone treasured her handmade cards and the distribution list grew to over 100+ a month. She collected recipes from everywhere in the world. She created a compilation of all of her recipes for family members and close friends.

Christmas was her favorite time of year. She spent hours baking and delivering the family coffeecakes and other goodies. The Christmas open house that she and her husband hosted every year for the Naval Academy cadets and their families was one of her favorite events.

For the past several years, Christine's home has been at Primrose Retirement Community where she has enjoyed making many friendships and playing lots of bridge.

Christine was involved in many organizations. As a military spouse, she was active with the family support services on various Navy bases. Christine managed the Hen House for fifteen years in Evansville, Indiana, not-for-profit organization that supported crafters in selling their handmade art. She supported Meals on Wheels as a delivery driver and visitor to shut-ins.

Christine became a member of Alpha Omicron Pi women's fraternity as an alumna initiate. She loved working with the Chi Lambda Chapter at the University of Evansville on service projects, especially their work with "Sisters for Soldiers". She was also a member of P.E.O.

Christine was preceded in death by the love of her life, Kenneth Linwood Shipley, her brother Mike, and her parents. She is survived by her four children: a son, Richard Shipley (Kathleen); a son, Mark Shipley (Denise); a daughter, Rebecca Shipley Ziga (Michael); and a son, David Shipley (LaCinda); along with eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Per Christine's wishes, a private service will take place with only her family.

Christine's grandmother, Alice Grace McLemore, was a poet. She wanted to share a stanza from one of her poems as a final message to all whom she loved and those who may read about her life.

"For they tell us that life is a warfare, Where battles are fought to be won. When it's finished, if we've tried, if we've done our best, We will hear his voice saying, ‘Well Done’."

To celebrate Christine's life, she requested memorial contributions be made to one of the special organizations she supported:

Ziga Family Legacy Scholarship, Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Purdue for Life Foundation, 403 West Wood Street West Lafayette, IN 47907 or

Alpha Omicron Pi Foundation, 5390 Virginia Way, Brentwood, TN 37027 or
