Arthur "Mac" McCaffry Obituary

Arthur B. “Mac” McCaffry, age 92, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 10:17 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019, at Linda E. White Hospice House.

Mac was born October 1, 1926, in Evansville, IN, to Arthur W. and Lettie Mae (Septer) McCaffry. He graduated from Reitz High School in 1944 and was a Veteran in the United States Marines where he served during World War II. Mac went on to earn his Associate’s Degree from Evansville Business College. He was a member of Creekside Baptist Church and was employed by L&N Railroad for 39 years before retiring as the Vice General Chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Mac later retired in 2001 from University of Southern Indiana where he worked on the Residence Life Staff. He enjoyed writing, and he published 2 books.

He is survived by his son, Danny McCaffry of Fort Collins, CO; daughters, Terri Miller (Gary) of Haughton, LA, and Lydia Balbach (Steve) of Darmstadt, IN; 7 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and siblings, Joseph “Butch” McCaffry, Norma Weiss, and Randy McCaffry.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife of 49 years, Joyce McCaffry, who passed away in 1998; second wife of 8 years, Mae “Ailene” McCaffry, who passed away in 2019; and sister, Beverly Johnson.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the Deaconess VNA Hospice staff and the Linda E. White Hospice House staff for the loving care and concern.

Memorial Services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Creekside Baptist Church, 2301 Oak Hill Road, Evansville with Reverend Gary Miller and Pastor Don Moore officiating. Burial will be Private in Park Lawn Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Creekside Baptist Church at 2301 Oak Hill Road, Evansville, IN 47711, Linda E. White Hospice House at 611 Harriet Street, Evansville, IN 47710, or Deaconess VNA Hospice at 610 East Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47713.
