Barbara Ruth Avis, age 65, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on April 8, 2026, at Encompass Health Rehabilitation.
Barbara was born on May 10, 1960, in Oakland, California, to Richard Lee Andrews and Dorothy (Conlan) Andrews. She graduated from Chagrin Falls High School, attended Bethany Nazarene College, and later earned her master’s degree from the University of Southern Indiana. Barbara was a devoted member of NorthWoods Church.
Barbara dedicated her life to helping others as an addiction counselor and was well known and deeply respected within the recovery community. Her faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life and guided everything she did. She found her greatest joy in her family, especially her grandchildren, and was known as an exceptional cook who brought people together through her meals.
She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Lanney Avis; children, Graham Avis (Katy), Benson Avis (Tori), Abbey Bhatti (Vikram), and Noah Avis (Katie); sister, Martha Andrews; and her cherished grandchildren, Haddy Cate, Mac, Avery, Aleya, Ezra, and Bella.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at NorthWoods Church, 9920 N. Green River Road, Evansville, Indiana, with Pastor Bobby Pell officiating.
Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church.
