Barbara J. (Dailey) Schmitt

Barbara J. (Dailey) Schmitt, an 87-year resident of Evansville, IN, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024, at Walnut Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center.

Barbara was born October 31, 1936, in Evansville, IN, to Clyde and Ida (Wilson) Dailey. She graduated from Reitz High School in 1954, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Evansville in 1965, and earned her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana State University in 1970. Barbara taught for 29 years in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, beginning her career at Lincoln Elementary School and finishing Central High School where she primarily taught Physical Education, Home Economics, and Health Occupation.

Barbara was a Member of the Evansville Teachers’ Association, Evansville Retired Teachers’ Association, Indiana State Teachers’ Association, and National Educators’ Association, and she was on the Board of Directors for Evansville Retired Teachers’ Association and American Sewing Guild, Evansville Chapter. She was passionate about teaching and her special achievements include serving as the District Coordinator for the Indiana Vocational Education and as the Developer and Project Leader for the Evansville School District’s Health Occupations Program.

Barbara is survived by her son, Steve Schmitt (Marci) from Chandler, IN; daughter, Susan Broughton (Ed) from Princeton, NJ; grandchildren, Lindsay Compitello (Thomas), Corey Schmitt, Clay Schmitt (Kiley), Daniel Broughton (Kristen), and Kate Broughton; and 5 great grandchildren.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Dorothy Clark and Shirley Fitzgerald.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Dr. Thomas Wenig officiating. Burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time, Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
