Barbara Barrett Obituary

Barbara S. Barrett, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2020.

Barbara was born in Evansville, IN, to James Solon Barrett and Beatrice Buente Barrett. She graduated from North High School, earned her teaching degree from the University of Evansville, and went on to receive her Masters of Education from Indiana University. Barbara worked for the EVSC, teaching English and computer technology at Dexter Elementary school, and English and French at Bosse High school.

After teaching for over a decade, Barbara went back to school to pursue her Law Degree from St. Louis University School of Law. She was licensed to practice law in Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois. Barbara opened her own practice in downtown Evansville, Barrett Law Offices, where she served the community for over 20 years.

She was very active in her church, Eastminster Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, elder, the clerk of session, and president of the Eastminster Presbyterian Women. Barbara was a member and served as president of the Evansville chapter of Altrusa International, a member of the Rotary Club of Evansville, and the Women’s Club of Newburgh. She enjoyed traveling, especially to her favorite vacation spot in Sedona, Arizona.

Barbara is survived by her brother, James S. Barrett II (Janice); sister, Nancy Barrett Engelbrecht (Dan); nephew, Matthew Barrett Hikade; nieces, Emily Barrett Wolanski (Brian), Sarah Barrett Simonen (Louis), Jennifer Barrett Waller (Rob Dean), Annie Barrett Engelbrecht (Trey Fulkerson); great nieces and nephews, Barrett, Brayden, Emma, Owen, Lizzie, and Elena. She is preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Eastminster Presbyterian Church at 5501 Washington Ave, Evansville, IN 47715.
