Barry P. Siegel, age 86, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 12:28 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at home.
Barry was born July 24, 1934, in Evansville, IN, to Louis and Lillian R. (Rubenstein) Siegel. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1951 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University in 1956. Barry was a long-time pharmacist in the local area, and he owned Barry’s Pharmacy and Grastie’s Drug Store in Henderson, KY for many years before retiring. Under his leadership, the pharmacy was a meaningful sponsor of youth baseball, local softball and bowling teams, and other community activities. He was a member and former President of the American Pharmacy Association and the National Community Pharmacy Association. Barry was a member of the Adath B’Nai Israel Temple, and also served in the US Army during the late 1950’s. He was an avid sports fan with a true passion for the Purdue Boilermakers football and basketball teams (where he would make regular pilgrimages with Carol to watch games), as well as the University of Evansville Purple Aces basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball teams. He enjoyed traveling and making road trips to all parts of the USA, even in his later years of life. Also during retirement, Barry became a trusted resource for numerous family-owned small-town pharmacies in the Greater Evansville/Henderson rural areas, providing much-needed relief for the local owner/pharmacists by helping to run their business so they could enjoy an occasional few days off.
Barry is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Mark Siegel (wife Kendra); grandchildren, Samantha (Siegel) Sultan (Jamey – husband), Sean Siegel, Jesse Siegel and Holly Siegel, and step-grandchildren Alexa Louvis and Alana Louvis. He is also survived by his cousins Donald Silver of Indianapolis, IN and Dennis and Judy Hummel of Louisville, KY, and other cousins of the Siegel and Rubenstein families.
Barry is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lillian Siegel; his brother David Siegel; and wife of 43 years, Alice (Young) Siegel.
