Betty Jean (Evans) Covert, age 94, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Brickyard – Woodlands Care Center.
Betty was born November 7, 1930, in Wink, TX, to the late Vance Lafayette Evans and Evelyn (Connell) Evans. She was a Navy wife for 30 years and was very active in the Navy Wife’s Club and their thrift stores. Betty was a volunteer Police Officer (known as RSVP) in La Mesa, CA for over 15 years. She was a member of the Junior Women’s Club in L.A. Betty loved and enjoyed flower gardening.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Scott (Terry); son, Dana Paul Covert II (Linda); grandchildren, Michael Scott (Martha), Melissa Jackson (Wade), Christy Nelson, Michele McVey (Brad), Brian Covert (Nicole) and Jason Covert (Leah); and 17 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Vance and Evelyn Evans; loving husband of 66 years, Dana Paul Covert; sister, Frances Pratt; granddaughter, Mary Morford; and companion of 15 years, Victor Brown.
A Memorial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 8599 Nester Hill, Newburgh, IN 47630 with an Open House following. Burial will be on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.
