Betty Joan (Combs) Swanback

Betty “Joan” (Combs) Swanback, age 88, of Evansville, IN passed away on October 7, 2020, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital with her family by her side.

Joan was born January 12, 1932, in Evansville, IN, to Albert E. Combs and Ethel E. Wiggins. She was a 1949 graduate of Reitz High School.  After high school, she met and married her beloved husband, James Swanback in 1954.

Joan worked for the late F. Wendell Lensing in Probate and Juvenile courts, and was also employed by George Koch & Sons.  She was a member of Howell General Baptist Church.  Joan enjoyed volleyball and bowling.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Leslee Dawn Swanback and Stacy Joan Yackle (Brian); grandchildren, James David Cook and Johannah Stacia Dawn Cook; nieces, Janice Lamb and Karen Peerman; nephews, Bob Ennis (Delores), her lifelong best friend David Schaefer (Judy) and Larry Cravey, and other family members.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents; husband of forty-four years, James D. Swanback; sister, Inez Courtney; and brother, Marvin Ernspeiger.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2020, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Terry Gamblin officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.  

Friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. until time of service, Friday, October 9, 2020.
