Betty Deloris (Nelson) Woodruff, age 90, of Evansville, IN, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.
Betty was born on October 29, 1933, in Muhlenberg County, KY, to Felix and Mary “Roxie” (Vincent) Nelson. She retired from EVSC after 22 years of service as a Cafeteria Worker. In her younger years, she was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, listening to games on the radio and keeping track of their score in her little notebook. She later enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs on TV, cheering them to victory. Betty was an excellent cook who loved making meals for her family. She was famous for her red velvet cakes (which her family members fought over).
Betty was a long-time, active member of Evansville United Christian Fellowship Church where, in her younger years, she served as a Sunday School Teacher and worked in the kitchen. She loved the Lord and enjoyed being on the Prayer Team. She was a very selfless, giving lady whose charity never failed. She was a Prayer Warrior who was always ready to pray for anyone in need. Betty especially loved her family – she was their anchor, and she lived for her children and grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her son, Allen D. Woodruff, II (Sherry) of Evansville, IN; daughters, Deborah L. Haire (Rick) and Melissa Ford (Kenny), both of Evansville, IN; brother, Larry Nelson of Evansville, IN; sister, Martha McCollum of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Eric (Stacey), David, Ashley (Keith), Ryan, Allen III (Julie), Chris (Sidney), Holly (Kyle), Jesse, and Ericka; great grandchildren, Addy, Dean, Kennedy, Sloan, and Lettie; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 57 years, Allen D. “Dean” Woodruff, who passed away in 2017; daughters, Shelia Ann Havill and Belinda “Kay” Woodruff; great grandchildren, Paisley Ford and Luke Paynter; 6 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 16, 2024, at Evansville United Christian Fellowship Church, 1708 Fuquay Road, Evansville, IN, with Pastor Roger Willis and Reverend Allen D. Woodruff, III officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Church Cemetery, Nortonville, KY.
Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN, and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time, Monday, September 16, 2024, at Evansville United Christian Fellowship Church.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to her Caregiver, Sherry Woodruff, to Dr. William Smith and the Nurses at Deaconess Hospital, and to Dr. Karl Sash and the Staff at Heart to Heart Hospice for their kind, compassionate care.
