Betty G. (Boyer) Youngs, age 100, of Evansville, IN, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Evansville Protestant Home.
Betty was born December 18, 1925, in McLeansboro, IL, to the late Clyde J. Boyer and Lola I. (Bell) Boyer. She graduated from McLeansboro High School in 1943. Betty was employed as an agent operator for the L&N Railroad for ten years. She later worked in personnel management for the United States Armed Forces for five years. Betty eventually retired as a sales associate from DeJong’s Department Store, where she was known for her warm personality and strong work ethic.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Betty was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years, faithfully teaching Sunday School and Bible School. She also attended Embrace Church (formerly American Baptist East) for more than 59 years, remaining active and engaged in church life throughout her years.
Betty was committed to her community and civic involvement. She was a member of the Home TTE Club for over 50 years and also served as past president and lifetime member of the Home Economics Extension Club. She was a 82-year member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, a 50-year member and Past Royal Matron of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and a member and Past Royal Matron of the Amaranth. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Isis Temple. In addition, Betty served on the board of the Welborn Hospital Foundation, contributing her time and leadership to support healthcare in her community.
Betty had a special love for collecting bells, angels, decorative plates, and tea sets. These treasured collections reflected her appreciation for beauty, tradition, and meaningful keepsakes. She loved to laugh and often said that laughter is good for the soul — and she truly lived that out. Her joyful spirit and warm smile were a gift to everyone who knew her.
Betty’s life was defined by service — to her church, her organizations, her workplace, and her community — but just as much by her kindness and her joyful heart. Her legacy is one of faithfulness, leadership, and a life well lived.
Betty is survived by her son, Forrest Youngs (Carol); sister, Judy Gholson; brothers, Paul Boyer, and Joe Boyer (Andrea); grandson, Matthew Youngs (Mindy); special friends, Kim Blythe, Debbie Clayton (Phil), Sara Young (Matt), Clayton, Carter, Ellie, Mattie; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lola Boyer; husband of 55 years, Henry C. Youngs; brothers, Bob Boyer, Roy Boyer; and close friend, Sue Harkin.
