Billy Smith Obituary

Billy L. Smith, age 88, of Elberfeld, passed away on November 28, 2025, at 6:13 PM at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Billy was born on May 15, 1937, in Princeton, Kentucky, to Rabie L. and Ora Mae (Lewis) Smith. He was a self-made man with a strong work ethic and determination. At one point, Billy owned and operated Smith Construction Company, and he worked for many years as a skilled diesel mechanic. He also owned hunting land in Pike County, a place he treasured and where he spent countless hours fishing and hunting. Billy enjoyed the quiet challenge of working puzzles and appreciated the simple comforts of life. Above all, he loved his family deeply.

Billy is survived by his daughter, Tammie Bugher (Laine); sons, Robert “Bobby” Smith (Jane) and Gary Smith (Selena); sister, Shirley Merriman; daughter-in-law, Frances Smith; grandchildren, Kymber Baumholser (Jason), Lisa Warner (Tim), Maria Lenn (Sam), David Smith, Kristie Almon (Leif), Andrew Smith (Kristie), Dr. Shawn Isaacs (Kira Wessel); great grandchildren, Ethan, Kylee, Maci, Gavin, Mia, Gabby, Gage, Emma, Maddy, Mason, and Mallory.

Billy is preceded in death by his wife of 46 yrs, Wanda (Gilbert) Smith; son, William “Mike” Smith; siblings, Joe Ann Thurmond, Jane Meinschein, Donnie “Duck” Smith, Kenneth Smith, and Rabie Jr. Smith; and grandson, Geoffrey Stricker.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be private at Oak Hill Cemetery.
