Billy Winstead, age 78, of Evansville, IN, passed away Monday, April 20, 2026, at Asension St. Vincent Evansville.
Billy was born June 12, 1947, in Sebree, KY, to the late Vollie Winstead and Dorothy Mae (Kennada) Owens. He retired from Inland Steel where he was a truck driver. In his earlier years, he played the guitar in a band. Billy enjoyed gardening and camping. He loved spending time with family and his grandkids, who affectionately called him, Papaw, the best “taxi service” around.
Billy is survived by his loving wife - they were together for 30 years, Nina (Owens) Winstead; daughters, Barbara (Chris) Hedrick, LeeAnn Winstead, Brandie (James) McKinley, and Stephanie (Kevin) Lindy; sons, James (Angela) Winstead, Leonard (Erin) Winstead, Billy Winstead, II, and Thomas (Jami) Harris; sisters, JoAnn Howell, and Brenda; brother, Donald (Diane) Winstead; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents; Vollie Winstead and Dorothy Mae (Warren) Owens; and brother, Roger Dale Winstead.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Kris Holzmeyer officiating. Burial will be private.

Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00p.m., Friday, April 24, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
