Burtis W. "Burt" Cloud Obituary

Burtis W. “Burt” Cloud, 94, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at his home.

Burt was a CPA, associated with J. D. Turner, Oil Producer, and Big Seven Drilling Company, Inc. for over 50 years.  He was in public accounting practice for many years, and finally retired at age 85. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and his association with his clients.

Burt was born on July 10, 1924, in rural Gallatin County, Illinois, to Namen S. and Bertha E. (Turner) Cloud.  He graduated from Eldorado Township High School (IL) and Lockyear Business College.  He attended University of Evansville.

Burt was a 70 year member of Lessing Masonic Lodge 464 with dual membership in Daylight Masonic Lodge 752.  He also had membership in Evansville Scottish Rite, Evansville York Rite, Hadi Shrine Temple, Evansville York Rite College, Eastern Star, St. Cyril Red Cross of Constantine, National International Hi-Twelve, Swords of Bunker Hill, a former member of the Royal Order of Jesters, the Royal Order of Scotland and National Sojourners. He served many of these organizations as the presiding officer.  He was Potentate of Hadi Shrine Temple in 1984, and was the recipient of the 33rd Degree, Honorary Member of the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite; Honorary Legion of Honor of DeMolay, and the Grand Cross of Colors of Rainbow for Girls.  He was Drum Major of the Hadi Drum and Bugle Corp for many years.

He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the 9th Army Air Force in the European Theatre of operation. He was a member of VFW Post 1114, and Eugene Pate American Legion Post 265. 

Burt was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for ­­73 years.  He was on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army and involved in other community service organizations.  Burt and LaRue enjoyed traveling, family activities and golf trips with friends.

Burt was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, LaRue; parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Burt is survived by his three daughters, Nancy (Dan) Temme, Linda (Andy) Bullock of Evansville, and Becky (Joel) Scherrer of Muncie, IN; two granddaughters, Amy (Nathan) Steele, Jennifer (Josh) Jenks; three grandsons, Christopher and Courtney Campbell, Brian (Stephanie) Scherrer; ten great-grandchildren, Marco and Anna Steele, Hunter, Adrienne and Chase Jenks, Bella, Charley, June and Grady Campbell, and Eleanor Scherrer.

Burt was lovingly cared for by all of his wonderful Care Givers.  The family wishes to thank them for their compassionate care.  They would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for their assistance in caring for Burt.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Dr. Todd Gile and Chaplain Julie Pimlott officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park where Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will render full military rites.  

Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2019 where the Hadi Shrine will conduct a walk through at 6:30 p.m. followed by 33rd Degree Masonic walk through and Lessing Masonic Lodge 464 will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL.
