Charles W. Gass

Charles W. Gass, age 92, of Newburgh, IN, passed away at 3:43 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

Charles was born October 8, 1928, in Marion, KY, to John Hester and Edna (Morgan) Gass. He graduated from Central High School. Charles was an active member of Vann Avenue Baptist Church for 50 years. He worked as a pipefitter for the Local Plumbers and Steamfitters Union 136 for over 35 years. Charles enjoyed listening to music, riding his bike, being outdoors, fishing, working in his yard, watching car races, and Snoopy. He loved his trips to Gatlinburg and Florida. Charles especially loved spending time with his family and grand dogs, Rascal, Blaze, and Gunner.

Charles is survived by his daughters, Shawnna Gerding (Phil) and Lynda Merrill (Jeff); sons, Marty Gass (Carol) and Jon Stephen Gass; grandchildren, Brian Gerding (Megan), Kevin Gass, Christopher Gass, Chrystal Day (Matt), Morgan Merrill, and Kaden Merrill; great granddaughter, Claire Elizabeth; and sister, Mary Helen Mitchell.

Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Geraldine (Beard) Gass; parents, John and Edna Gass; and daughter, Lisa Gass.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2021, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Reverend Dr. Larry Lewis officiating.
