Charles Koewler Obituary

Charles A. Koewler, Newburgh, IN, born October 8, 1935 to to Mildred (Sills) and John Koewler of Evansville, IN passed away on July 21, 2024. Charles was a Christian and worshipped as a charter member at Living Word Christian Church of Newburgh where he met with the Lifeway Class and Encore Senior Fellowship.

Mr. Koewler was a 1955 graduate of Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, IN and graduated from St. Edwards University, Austin, Texas in 1959 where he earned a B.S. degree in Commerce. Charles joined the staff of Consumers Gas Company, an Illinois utility company associated with Schoonmaker Oil Company with executive offices in Evansville, IN. He remained with them his entire working career as an accountant while the company experienced several administrative changes. In earlier years, Charles also worked with the family owned business at the West Side Drive-In Theater in Evansville. Charles and his wife owned and operated Charter Personnel Service in the Hulman Building in downtown Evansville for a time. He retired in 1997.

Charles had an interest in genealogy and traced his family to the Black Forest area of Germany. He enjoyed traveling to historic points of interest in the U.S., Europe, vacations in Florida, time at their former weekend place at Yellow Banks Recreation Center, Selvin, IN and the many parties he and his wife, Charlotte, hosted there and at their home.

Charles spent much time with his beloved pet, Alex, a West Highland White Terrier. They were familiar walkers in the neighborhood. Charles was an excellent Pictionary game player and he and Charlotte were among a group of friends who played the game for years on a monthly basis. He was a source of trivia facts that amazed his family. He had an extensive knowledge about history, American Presidents and Vice-Presidents. He followed the stock market and national politics with great interest. Mr. Koewler supported many civic organizations. Charles loved the special family celebrations over the years and the Boy Scout and sports activities he followed with the children and grandchildren, as well as the WW11 re-enactment activities his stepsons were involved with. He cherished the times shared with his brothers and their families. Charles was a kind and generous man who will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John, James and Joe Koewler.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving family, wife, Charlotte; stepsons, Eric Virgin (Anne), Mark Virgin (Shannon); grandchildren, Michael Virgin (Rachael), Christopher Virgin (Kassi), Daniel Virgin, Matthew Virgin (Morgan), great grandchildren, Magnolia Virgin, Gracelyn Virgin, Carter Virgin, Addyson Virgin, expected Wesley Alan Virgin; sisters-in-law, Doris Koewler, Carol Koewler, and June Huber as well as dear nieces and nephews living in many parts of the country.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Tommy Epperson officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, IN.

Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
