Charles "Herb" Porter

Charles “Herb” Porter, age 85, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the Village at Hamilton Pointe.

Herb was born December 11, 1940, in Evansville, IN, to Charles W. and Irma (Kapperman) Porter. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1958. Herb served in the United States Army for 2 years. He worked as a manager and buyer for Kuester’s Hardware from 1965-2001. In 2002, he helped open Ryan’s Ace Hardware where he retired as a buyer after 10 years. Herb loved the Lord. He was a member of Terrace Parke General Baptist Church for 50 years where he was an usher and served on the board of trustees. He became a faithful member of Living Word Christian Church in 2015. He enjoyed golfing and traveling with his family and friends. Herb had a great sense of humor. He was very caring and will be dearly missed.

Herb is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Myrna (Carter) Porter; son, Brent M. Porter (Angela); sister, Sharon Bastnagel (Bob); grandchildren, Alec Paul Porter and Elaina Marie Henson (Braden); and nieces and nephews.

Herb is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Beverly Southerland.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Tommy Epperson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
