Charles "Popi" Henry Benton

Charles “Popi” Henry Benton, age 83, of Evansville, IN passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

Charlie was born September 18, 1941, in Evansville, IN, to Virgil and Regina (Ahlmann) Benton. He worked as an electrician for 40 years and was a 60-year member of IBEW Local #16. He looked forward to his monthly IBEW retiree breakfast. In 1991, Charlie was bestowed the honor of Kentucky Colonel by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  Charlie loved everything about going to church. He was a member of Oak Hill Church of Christ where he served as deacon and head of benevolence. Charlie enjoyed fishing, boating, the church’s annual October fish fry, woodcarving, and spending time with family.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Julia (Morris) Benton; daughters, Julie Ann Shaw (Nelson) and Susan Benton-Smith (Chip Sparks); sisters, Louise Kroeger, Dena Kopczynski, and Letta Benton Vasquez; brother, Dale Benton; grandchildren, Charles Baker, McKenzie Mooney, Lily Smith (Wade Pendergrass) and Grace Smith; and great grandchildren, Ruby Mooney and Vada Smith.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Norma Stanley, Geneva Fark, Carolyn Jobe, and Donna King; and brothers, Larry Benton, Dewey Benton, and Louis Benton.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Jon Riley officiating. Entombment will be in Oak Hill Mausoleum.

Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
