Curtis “Curt” L. Todd, age 64, of Evansville, IN, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023, at his home.
Curt was born, June 21, 1959, in Evansville, IN, to Felix and Shirley (Lee) Todd. He graduated from Bosse High School in 1977. He attended the University of Evansville before joining the United States Marines. Curt retired as a Gunnery Sergeant (E7) after 20 years on Active Duty and in the Reserves during the Iran-Iraq War, Desert Storm, and the Persian Gulf War. Served in the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, NC in a combat infantry unit, and with the Inspector-Instructor Staff at Long Island, NY, as an Infantry Instructor. Curt went on several overseas tours to the Western Pacific. He received twelve decorations.
Curt was employed as a Crime Analyst, Evansville Police Department since 1999. He had previous employment as a Federal Corrections Officer for the U.S. Department of Justice. Honor Graduate; Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Glynco, GA. Honor Graduate; Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Plainfield, IN. Police Officer with the Evansville Police Department 1992 – 1999.
Curt, was injured in the Line of Duty, during a successful lifesaving rescue of an elderly woman. He received EPD Silver Star and Serious Injury Award (ED Purple Heart). Curt was the first Indiana recipient of the National Theodore Roosevelt Award for officers returning to duty after suffering a catastrophic injury. He was a member of the Evansville Police Pension Board 1996 - 2014. He served as President and Secretary. Curt was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Above all, a very proud father and loyal husband to his wife, that both sacrificed a lot!
Curt is survived by his Wife of 27 years, Kris Todd; Sons, Matthew Todd (Kelsey Epley) and Jeffrey Johnson; Sisters, Debbie Morell and Michele Schuh; Brother, Marty Todd; and Brothers-in-law, Wayne Smith and Keith Smith
Curt is preceded in death by his Parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Chaplain Darren Sroufe officiating. Also participating, River Cities Det 1090 of The Marine Corps League NEW, and American Legion Kapperman Post #44, will be rendering military honors.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, where the Evansville Police Honor Guard Team, will escort and render police honors.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
