Daniel Ernspiger, age 96, of Evansville, In, passed away Friday, February 13, 2026, at Holiday Retirement Village.
Dan was born March 28, 1929, in Evansville, Indiana, to Ernest and Elsie (Murphy) Ernspiger.
He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as church moderator, chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Sunday School superintendent. His faith and service were central to his life, and he was always willing to lend his time and leadership to his church family. He also shared his musical talents by playing the organ for residents of Good Samaritan Home during their Sunday coffee hour.
Dan was deeply involved in the Evansville community. He was a longtime member of Kiwanis, serving as past president of Downtown Kiwanis and later being honored by the Green River Kiwanis for 55 years of dedicated service. He also served as past president of the Shrine Luncheon Club and was active in the Hadi Brass Band, where he proudly played the trombone.
Dan’s professional career in banking spanned many years. He began working at Union Federal Savings and Loan in 1956, where he served for 11 years. In 1967, he joined National City Bank where he worked for 24 years until his retirement. Following retirement, he continued working with Reid Appraisal Associates from 1991 to 1996.
Dan will be remembered for his steady faith, commitment to service, love of music, and lifelong dedication to both his church and his community.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathie Ernspiger, Sue Ernspiger (Deb), Kris Brown, Kara Delashmit and Kim Mattingly (Larry “Beaver”); grandchildren, Shelley Dillingham Thompson (Patrick), Kalah Delashmit Walker (Brett), Nathan Brown (Liz), Frank Mattingly (Emily), Samuel Mattingly, Emma Mattingly, and Daniel Mattingly; and great grandchildren, Tyler Thompson (Tabitha), Oliver Walker, Lola Walker, Gabriel Rice, James Mattingly and Bennett Mattingly; longtime friends and neighbors Butch and Susie Garrison and longtime friend Charlie Alvey.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Nell McKinnis Ernspiger and son-in-law, Jay Delashmit.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Holiday Retirement Village and Heritage Hospice for the kindness, compassion, and excellent care given to their father.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Dan’s good friend Rev. Shane O’Neill officiating. Private burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 12 noon until time of service, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
