Daniel D. "Dan" Ditzer Obituary

Daniel D. “Dan” Ditzer, age 90, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at home.

Dan was born January 18, 1933, in Sturgis, KY, to Jesse and Grace (Hunter) Ditzer. He graduated from Reitz High School in 1950, earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History from Oakland City University in 1955, and earned his Master’s Degree in Theology from North Arizona University at Flagstaff. Dan was an active member and Deacon of Oakhill Baptist Church since 2002 and was a former member and Deacon at First Baptist Church in Sturgis, KY. He retired in 1994 after 38 years of teaching Jr. High School in Arizona and Kentucky. He was involved in Missions work in Arizona doing remote work for Hopi and Navajo Indian people while living on the Navajo Reservation at that time. Once moving to the Fort Apache Indian Reservation, he continued working with missions and teaching school. He enjoyed telling many stories about Arizona and the mission fields on the Indian Reservations. Dan was an avid bowler; he enjoyed going to Franklin Lanes and bowling with his many friends. He especially loved his family and enjoyed traveling with them.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Joyce Ann (Maier) Ditzer; children, Timothy Ditzer (Cristina) of Evansville, IN, Rebecca “Becky” Sparks of Haubstadt, IN, and Stephen Ditzer of Franklinton, NC; grandchildren, Shiloh Ditzer, Jesse Ditzer, Ethan Ditzer (Hannah), Nathanael Sparks (Audrey), Katerina Sparks Rexing (Matt), and Jacob Sparks (Jenna); and great grandchildren, Charlie Ditzer, Aria Ditzer, Zion Sparks, and Lincoln Rexing.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents; Jesse and Grace Ditzer; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Ditzer, who passed away in 1957; son, David Alan Ditzer, who passed away in 1965; sister, Betty Tyree; brothers, Richard “Pete” Ditzer, Rev. Kenneth Ditzer, and Rev. Earl Ditzer; son-in-law, Jay Sparks, who passed away in 2017, and daughter-in-law, Lois Ditzer who passed away in 2021.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, with Pastor Cliff Herring officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2023, and from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
