Dariel M. Baker, age 91, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at his home.
Dariel was born on November 27, 1934, in Evant, Texas, to John and Ova P. (Allen) Baker. He graduated from McCamey High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.
Dariel proudly served his country in the United States Army for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3), after a distinguished military career. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, where he was described as the best boss anyone ever had.
A man of deep faith, Dariel was a faithful member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church for over 40 years, which later became American Baptist East. In more recent years, he attended Christian Fellowship Church.
On December 18, 1960, Dariel married the love of his life, Susan Juanette (Dixon) Baker. Avid campers, together they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage, creating countless memories while traveling to 49 of the 50 states and throughout Europe.
Above all, Dariel was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather. His unwavering love for his family, his faithful service to his country, and his steadfast faith left a lasting legacy. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His family will cherish his memory forever.
Dariel is survived by his sons, Steve Connor (Chrisie), Gary Connor (Gretchen), Gene Baker (Jane), John Baker and Danny Baker (Julie); grandchildren, Sarah, Ashley, Brian and Rachel Connor; Brandon, Samuel, and Chloe Baker, Megan and Luke Baker; great grandchildren, Seth, Brody, Carter, Kendall, Olivia, Edward, Ari, Ryker, Esther, Will and Lucy; sister, Judy Eyler (William); brother, Johnny Baker (Theresa); many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dariel is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 59 years, Susan Juanette (Dixon) Baker; sister, Fern Jurea Scott; brothers, Billy Wayne, Wilber Gene, Larry, and David Baker.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Rd, Evansville, IN 47725 with Pastor Jeff Stratton officiating, and Kapperman Post 44 rendering military rites. Burial will be Private.
Friends may visit from 11 a.m. until time of service, Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Christian Fellowship Church.
