David Alan “Dave” Westfall, age 76, of Evansville, IN, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024, at his home.
Dave was born on November 3, 1947, in Evansville, IN, to the late John Richard and Delores M. (Effinger) Westfall. He graduated from North High School in 1965. In his younger years, he attended Central United Methodist Church and most recently attended the Christian Fellowship Church. He loved God’s Word and enjoyed his weekly Bible Studies with David and Judy Niednagel for many years.
Dave had a passion for performance and theatre, and he was an accomplished vocalist. He began singing seriously in the 6th grade where he was given his first solo as a boy soprano by Jerry Hoover, his voice teacher and mentor. Soon after, he would be participating in his school’s musicals, determined to one day be on Broadway. But first, he studied music theatre at Indiana University, where he was a member of the Singing Hoosiers and travelled internationally with them as a soloist. He furthered his acting career through studies at the University of Evansville under John David Lutz. Dave moved to NYC where, for 16 years he pursued his dreams, becoming a member of the prestigious Actors Equity Association. He played the lead role in both The Gifts Of The Magi and A Theatre History at the famed Lamb’s Theatre in New York as well as playing the role of McAlmon in Paris Lights at the American Place Theatre. Other theatre credits include leads in Shenandoah, Jacques Brel, 1776, Company, Stop The World and As You Like It and many others including his one man show, Pack Up Your Troubles. One day after reading Philippians 4:8-9, Dave found himself applying to Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and returning to Boston, where he would earn two degrees: a Master of Divinity and a Master in Counseling. He began working as a counselor in Massachusetts. Dave continued his love of theatre with the Gerbers, performing with Acts From The Heart and originating the role of Jacob in Suddenly On Christmas Eve, which has been seen by over 30,000 people in the New England area. Dave moved back to Indiana taking on a counseling position at the Evansville Youth Care Center. Dave has combined his counseling and artistic skills into a ministry of sharing the gospel through acting and song. Dave puts his trust in God through Christ, believing that God’s intentions will go far beyond his own expectations.
David is survived by his wife of 35 years and love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” (Wallis) Westfall; son, Connor Westfall (wife, Olivia); and half-sister, Carolyn Fimiani.
