David Yourgans Obituary

David Otto Yourgans, age 84, of Evansville, IN, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at home.

David was born November 29, 1939, in Evansville, IN, to Fred and Wilma (Schmidt) Yourgans. He graduated from Bosse High School. David was a Veteran of the United States Army where he served as a helicopter mechanic and worked on the Sikorsky helicopter. He retired from Bristol Myers Squibb in 2011, having spent 20 years in the Shipping Department at the Mount Vernon Warehouse. Prior to that, he was a Farmer for 23 years for Wathen Farms, located on S. Green River Road.

He was a devout Christian, having been baptized by Pastor John Hatcher at Emmanuel Baptist Church in the early 1990s. He loved hunting, fishing, and bowling winning several awards. He and his wife, Linda, had known each other as children, growing up in the same church – Union United Church of Christ on S. Green River Road. They both lived in the same house as children, but at different times. It was this same home on Pollack Avenue that they lived in together after they married.

David and Linda met again later in life when Linda worked as a Nursing Home Administrator in Cynthiana, IN. They quickly married, and it was evident he loved his wife dearly. They traveled all 50 U.S. States and almost all Canadian Provinces. They also extensively travelled throughout Europe and the Middle East. One of his favorite trips was to Berlin where they visited the Wall and Checkpoint Charlie.

David was an avid sports fan who loved NASCAR, especially Harry Gant and Jeff Gordon. He loved Fantasy Football and watching all sports.

David never met a stranger; he was friendly and a great conversationalist – able to talk to anyone about anything. He loved reading historical books and watching the History Channel.

He was a loving grandfather to all of his grand-and great-grandchildren, lovingly referred to as “Pa.” David attended as many of their games and school programs as possible and loved giving them rides on his little tractor. He was beloved and will be dearly missed.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Linda Jane (Wathen) Yourgans; brother, Roger Yourgans (Lorraine); nieces, Holly Miller (Kurt) and Sabra Young (Bill); many grand nieces, great nephews, great grandnieces, and great grandnephews; stepdaughters, Suzanne Bias (Jeremy) and Erika Kaplan; grandsons, Sean Richardson (Jennifer), Patrick Richardson, Exavior Crowe (Amber), Taylor Crowe (Krisna), Connor Crowe, Jacob Kaplan, Ryker Bias, Cruze Bias, and Joseph Crowe; granddaughters, Alexandra Kapperman, Hayley Grubb, Teddi Kaplan, and Jessi Kaplan; and great grandchildren, Kayden Sorrels, Preston Schaad, Ryleigh Crowe, Azrael Crowe, Lillith Kaplan, and Nova Crowe.

David is preceded by his parents; nephew, Brett Yourgans; stepsons, Michael Amstutz and Benjamin Crowe; and grandson, David Amstutz Landis.
