Dawson Schmitt, age 92, of Evansville, IN, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Brickyard Healthcare – Woodlands Care Center, Newburgh, IN.
Dawson was born October 28, 1932, in Dale, IN, to the late Louis and Elsie (Bockstahler) Schmitt. He graduated from Dale High School. He was a long-time member of Central United Methodist Church where he a member of the 4-C’ers Sunday School Class and loved volunteering for the church’s different events. Dawson was a Veteran in the United States Navy where he studied Welding in Sheet Metal School. He retired from George Koch Sons in 1981 after 45+ years and was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union. He was a jokester who loved to make people laugh, and he enjoyed reading, working in his flower garden, and he especially loved spending time with his grandkids.
Dawson is survived by his daughter, Patti Wright, of Danville, KY, son, Mark Schmitt, of Evansville, grandchildren, Jennifer (Wright) Pusateri (Joey), Jonathan Wright (Stephanie), and Brittany Stofleth (James), and great grandchildren, Payton, Kira, Landon, Sadie, Karson, Symon, & Dawson; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Schmitt (Duff); parents; and brothers, Norman Schmitt and Durbin Schmitt.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:55 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, with Pastor Joey Pusateri officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum where the American Legion Kapperman Post will render Military Funeral Honors.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 12:55 p.m. service time, Monday, December 30, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
