Don E. Bruce, age 95, of Evansville, IN, went to be with Jesus, his beloved wife and other family members on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at his home.
Don was born April 5, 1929, in Elk City, KS, to the late John and Blendena (Wilson) Bruce. He graduated from Central High School in 1946. Don worked for Faultless Caster as a master scheduler, retiring in 1996. He was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church and has been a member of First Southern Baptist Church since 2002. Don was a deacon and very active within the church. He was unique, kind, smart and wise. Don was a mentor to many, taking others under his wing. He was always serving and helping others. Don was the “rock” of the family. He was dearly loved by his children and grandchildren. He loved his pets. Don enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening and genealogy.
Don is survived by his daughters, Sandra Wilson, and Lisa Monk (Galen); son, Stephen Bruce (Jody); sister, Karen Sue Kerney (William); brother, William Robert Bruce (Linda); son-in-law, Daniel Balka; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 74 years, Norma “Jean” Bruce; daughters, Patricia McBride and Barbara Balka; sisters, Marlene Goodman and Catherine Stephens; brothers, Max Bruce and John Bruce; and son-in-law, John Wilson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Dr. Rob Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2024, and again from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
