Donald Arthur Barnes, age 87, of Evansville, IN, passed away February 19, 2025, at River Pointe Health Campus.
Don was born May 17, 1937, in Dodge City, KS, to the late Ashley Barnes and Monetta (Schneider) Brown. He grew up in Miami, OK, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas State Teacher’s College, now known as Emporia State University. He was a Veteran in the United States Navy. He and Judy were married on the 13th Hole of Mahogany Run Resort and Golf Course, overlooking the ocean in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands in 1982.
Don worked for Carleson Marketing Group for many years, selling travel to large companies. Enjoying a wonderful perk for this line of business, he and Judy were able to travel all over on “inspection trips,” including numerous countries in Europe and all over the U.S. He once mentioned he’d been to Hawaii 50 times. They also enjoyed trips to Mexico, and the Virgin Islands. Every winter, they traveled with their group of 8 friends to the Caribbean where they played tennis and volleyball and enjoyed swimming in the pool.
Don was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing tennis (Judy taught him how to play). He especially enjoyed reading, always carrying a book with him. He was a proud member of the Seafood Club. Once a month, 15-20 friends would get together. One of them would prepare a seafood meal at their house and have the other friends over.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Judy (Hudson) Barnes; daughter, Blyth Chambers of Bloomington, IL; granddaughter, Anastacia Bueneman (Alex) of St. Peter’s, MO; and nieces and nephews.
Don is preceded by his parents; 1 sister; and 3 brothers.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and Burial will be Private.
