Donald Edward Gibbs

Donald Edward Gibbs, age 73, of Evansville, IN, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital – Evansville after a long battle with cancer.

Don was born February 7, 1948, in Evansville, IN, to Kenneth Hargis “Hargy” Gibbs and Imogene (Golladay) Gibbs. He graduated from South Spencer High School in 1966. Don attended Ball State University and the University of Evansville and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. As a devout Christian, Don attended Northwoods Church. He spent a decades-long career as a Civil Engineering Estimator. Don was a Vietnam-Era Veteran in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Mauna Loa. He was a Mensa Member as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge. Don helped with the construction of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, and he made excellent blueberry pies and sugar cookies. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan, and he was similarly a life-long fan of baseball and college basketball. Don had a deep love of music that ranged from classical to contemporary. He made and maintained friendships with countless people from his youth and onward, and he will be dearly missed by all. Nothing brought him more joy than watching his grandchildren play sports and celebrating in their achievements.

Don is survived by his mother, Imogene Gibbs; son, Dylan Gibbs; daughter, Ticha Causey (Ryan); sisters, Jane Wheaton (Steve) and Gwynn Turner (Mike); grandchildren, Halle Causey, Garrett Causey, and Lincoln Gibbs; sister-in-law, Angie Gibbs; and many nieces and nephews.

Don is preceded in death by his father, Hargy Gibbs; and brother, Patrick Gibbs.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 28, 2021, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue with Pastor Bobby Pell officiating.
