Donald Lee Katterhenry, age 79, of Evansville, IN, passed away at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Donald was born May 15, 1942, in Evansville, IN, to Edgar and Anna Margaret (Bell) Katterhenry. He graduated from Bosse High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Evansville College and his Master’s Degree in Education from The University of Evansville. Even after graduation, Donald remained very active. He was the Varsity Club President and won the Meg Dettwieler Purple Aces Volunteer Club of the Year Award in 2001. Donald was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and helped during the Wednesday Morning Breakfast Youth Club. He taught at Baker Grade School and for Reitz High School where he was also the Assistant Basketball and Track Coach before retiring. Donald worked for Gus Doerner Sports throughout high school, and he joined them again after leaving teaching, opening their North Park store. He later served as their President. He was the founding member of the FNCC. Donald loved family gatherings, and his greatest joy was his grandchildren. They loved his milkshakes and swimming in his pool, and he loved watching their soccer matches and golf tournaments.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mickey Elaine (Hartley) Katterhenry; daughter, Sherri Fisher (Jim); son, Steve Katterhenry (Luanne); sister, Vicki Lacer (Bob); sister-in-law, Debbie Katterhenry; grandchildren, Kayla Katterhenry Osborne (Logan), Kelci Katterhenry, Avery Fisher, Alex Fisher, and Addie Kate Fisher; great grandson, Camden Henry Osborne; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Anna Margaret Katterhenry; and brother, Gary Wayne Katterhenry.
A Celebration of Life will be Private for family and close friends.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Mark Browning for his care during the past few years, and in Donald’s final days, to all the medical staff at Deaconess Gateway ICU Critical Care Unit.
