Donald Perigo Obituary

Donald “Don” Perigo, age 89, of Newburgh, IN, passed away at 7:44 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021 at the Newburgh Healthcare in Newburgh, IN.

Don was born April 13, 1932 in Chandler, IN, to Clyde E. Perigo and Emma (Ludwig) Perigo. He graduated Chandler High School in 1950 and played on the Chandler Panthers Basketball team that won the sectional in state championship. After graduation, he married Janice Carrell of Newburgh, IN, and they had three children that he adored. Don played one year of professional baseball in Alabama for the St. Louis Browns.

Don served in the United Stated Marine Corps. He loved the Corp and still flies the Marine Corps flag in his front yard. His hope is for his great grandson, Trip to enlist when he graduates.

After being discharged from the Marine Corps, he went on to earn a degree in Mortuary Science at Indiana Mortuary College. Don then opened Perigo Funeral Home in Chandler, IN. He also owned funeral homes in Evansville, Boonville, and Jasper. Don also served as the Warrick County Coroner for 20 years – winning by a landslide every time.

Once Don retired, he could often be found in his backyard smoking a cigar, drinking a beer, and always had extra for sharing.

Don was a lifelong member of the American Legion Kapperman Post 44, lifelong member of 40/8, lifelong member of Warrick County FOP #471, and lifelong member of VFW Post 3418.

Don is survived his daughter, Carol Goin Montgomery (Bill); grandchildren, Crista Moore (Matt) of Avon, IN, Cari Charnes (Greg) of Evansville, IN, Travis Perigo (Amanda) of Evansville, IN; 8 great grandchildren, Megan, Reese, and Addison Moore, Trip, Caroline, and Charlotte Charnes, and Jackson and Brock Perigo; and many nieces and nephews.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Emma (Ludwig) Perigo; wife, Janice (Carrell) Perigo; brother, Jack Perigo; sons, Kent and David Perigo; and grandson, Davey Perigo.
