Donald Ray Kendle, age 76, of Evansville, IN, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.
Don was born June 3, 1950, in Evansville, IN, to Drexel and Louise (Farmer) Kendle. He graduated from Central High School in 1968 and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1982. Don was a nurse for over 35 years and in the later part of his career he enjoyed travelling as a medical professional. He retired from the American Red Cross in 2003 and from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in 2011. He loved traveling the world and seeing new places, especially on cruises. Don also had a love for animals, having had many pets over the years. He was a talented artist and graduated from Ivy Tech in 1970 with a degree in Commercial Art. He was an active member of Sebree First Baptist Church in Sebree, KY. Don was a devoted family man who prioritized spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Debi (Hoehn) Kendle; children, Nathaniel Kendle, Shannon Kendle, Ryan Shelley, and Kristen Shelley Shephard; grandchildren, Tristen Kendle, Ethan Kendle, Jocelyn Kendle, Brooklyn Beach, Ainsley Beach, Evalyn Shephard, Nolan Shephard, Weston Shephard, and Leelan Shephard.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Shirley (Rainey) Crews, Jack Rainey, Gary Kendle, James Kendle, Richard Kendle, Robert Kendle, and David Kendle; and grandson, Wyatt Shephard.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 12100 KY-132, Sebree, KY 42455 with Pastor Dylan Zahn officiating. A Private Burial will be held at a later date in Ebenezer Cemetery in Hatfield, IN.
Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue where the Southern Indiana Nurse’s Honor Guard Service and Sharing of Memories will begin at 6:30 p.m.. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Friday, July 10, 2026 at First Baptist Church, 12100 KY-132, Sebree, KY 42455.
